Where To Buy Platon Membrane
PB2 Mesh is unaffected by the presence of moisture or salts, making it ideal for use where conventional chemical injection damp-proofing and associated re-plastering might not work reliably or where penetrating dampness is the dominant problem.PB2 Mesh is ideal for:
where to buy platon membrane
When laying new solid floors, apply the PB2 Mesh to the walls first, then lap the floor dpm up in front of the Platon membrane. Seal as required and trim the dpm flush with the top of the finished floor.
Platon is a rugged, dimpled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) membrane that keeps foundations and flooring dry. Platon creates an impermeable vapour barrier and air gap, allowing concrete to breathe while controlling moisture. Platon keeps wet soil away from the foundation wall. Any moisture that may find its way past the membrane is carried to the foundation drain by the air gap drainage path. Speedclips with fasteners and mouldings are to be used in conjunction with Platon to properly secure the membrane to the wall.

It has been used for waterproofing foundations since the early 1990s, with no reported leaks.
Platon Foundation Drainage keeps wet soil away from the foundation wall. Any moisture that may find its way past the membrane is carried to the foundation drain by the air gap drainage path. Platon Foundation Protector is commonly used to waterproof block walls, poured concrete walls, permanent wood, existing foundations and Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF).

Platon can be installed under all weather conditions, and does not require a special crew or equipment. Installation is fast and easy thanks to Platon Speedclip and Speedstrip Fasteners. Use Platon to keep basements dry and healthy. Platon can also be installed over existing basement floors to isolate floors from cold damp concrete, keeping basement floors healthy, warm and dry.
Would it be a good idea to put a vapour barrier that transitions from the floor to the wall? That is, have plastic sheeting that extends 6" under the platon, and runs 6" up the wall, sealed with PL Acousti-Seal?
The space is important as it allows vapour under the platon to gradually escape into the basement. See Platon Installation Guide www.systemplaton.com/pdf/ARM-Platon-install.pdf For the best protection of the stud wall from moisture you can put the base plate on top of strips of 1" XPS.
Ready to remodel my basement and have a few questions. Any help would be much appreciated. Home was built in the 50ÃÂÂs with a partially below grade basement (approx. ÃÂÂ below and ÃÂÂ above. I do not think that I have a major water problem but IÃÂÂm going to wait a few months to begin the work just to be sure. But being a basement, itÃÂÂs a little damp and is some areas, there is a white powder just below grade that IÃÂÂm assuming is water seepage. As of now, the basement is completed gutted and IÃÂÂm watching it closely. If all goes well, IÃÂÂll start the renovation in early spring. The plan is to use a Dricore or a Delta FL or a Super Seal membrane on the floor (leaning towards the Delta FL or Super Seal because it seems like it would work better as a moisture/vapor barrier. Also, I read here and there that Dricore has potential to mold due to the fact that the bottom has exposed particle board edges.). Then, now hereÃÂÂs the big question, I wanted to hang a dimpled membrane (Delta FL or Super Seal) from the wall at a height TBD (obviously above grade but if I went a little higher, I can from the wood just below the floor joists. Seems easier to screw into the wood frame than the concrete wall). I would bring that down to the floor leaving an inch or two return on the floor and install the floor on top of the return, taping the seams where the floor meets the wall (and everywhere else). Then I would use some sort of rigid insulation on top of that, stud on top of that and green sheetrock on top of that. Does this seem like a good idea or is it a recipe for disaster because there is no where for the moisture coming thru the walls to go (it will be trapped btw the concrete wall and the membrane barrier. Super Seal advertises that their membrane can be used in interior applications but with a French drain installed. I do not think that IÃÂÂm getting that much water that would justify the cost or need for a french drain. There are also 2 schools of thought on how to install these products. Completely seal it with spray foam to block any airflow and the other suggests leaving a ÃÂÂ inch gap where the wall meets the floor to promote airflow. IÃÂÂve been looking around and no one seems to be doing what I want to do. One last thing, I will frame out a 5 X 10 boiler room in the corner of the basement that I will not be installing the wall membrane or a floor system to. Is this good or bad? (considering the airflow question). Thanks in advance.

SELF-ADHERED WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE The SELF-ADHERED WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE is a 1.5 mm selfadhesive membrane made of elastomeric SBS bitumen and trilaminate woven polyethylene. The underface is composed of a silicone film easily detachable. This membrane is mainly used as a base sheet in two-ply roofing systems as well as for the waterproofing of foundations, shower bases, and washrooms. Foundation Coating;
The drainage membrane will allow the water from outside to run down the wall into the drain. The room side of the membrane will be warmer than the wall side so you will get condensation on the membrane, this will also drain down = water running down both sides, not a problem goes into same drain.
The air in the basement will be warmer and wetter than the dew point/temperature of the basement walls, therefore without proper water vapor sealing, this wet air will condense on the plastic membrane, or slip round it onto the wall, but as I wrote earlier, not a problem.
Your proposal, polystyrene sheet, with can foam sealing will keep the warm wet air away from the frame and the drainage membrane. Keeping in mind that it is very difficult to design and make a water vapor proof wall, if the water vapor does get through it will head for the nearest cold surface and will condense either on the drainage membrane or the concrete wall, in either case it will do no harm.
I recently watched an episode of Holmes Inspections with Mike Holmes. I have a basement with high humidity (home is over 60 years old in Michigan) and we have a dehumidfier constantly running. The damp air transfers to the upstairs causing a damp smell. On the Holmes show they used a dimpled membrane on the walls with treated lumber framing, spray foam insulation, then mold resistent drywall to fur out the walls. I liked the looks of this application but was wondering if this would help take care of my problem (my edge drains around the house seem to be working) ( do have a crawl space with an earth floor and I put vapor barrier down on when I moved in 14 years ago which seemed to work then)?
There's no substitute for foam panels as insulation. Either attach to your dimpled membrane, or to the blind side of the wall framing - taking care to allow for drainage under it. Foamboard won't absorb water. Leave your wall cavities open for the wiring, etc.
If one were to install a capillary break dimpled memberane on interior wall as O.P. indicates, then this would not be an issue with closed cell foam. Then again, you might as well use open cell foam at that point which is cheaper to install-- and skip the dimpled membrane all together. This logic tells me that open cell is the way to go for the O.P. if they want to foam.
